Sustainability

Ofita's commitment of protecting, conserving and improving the environment extends to all areas of the organisation, and involves everyone. Thus, management and all personnel take responsibility for sustainability in our daily work, promoting the integration of environmental practices in all activities. Their actions must always be responsible.

Its commitment to the environment leads the company to undertake various initiatives. It was, for example, one of the signatories to the Voluntary Environmental Agreement of the Surface Treatment Sector in the Basque Country in February 2006.

It is also associated with "Stop CO2 Euskadi", an initiative that aims to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and is a member of Izaite, the Association of Basque Companies for Sustainability, as described in the CSR section.?

ECO-DESIGNED PRODUCTS

Certificado ecodiseño

For years, Ofita products have been certified according to the UNE 150301 Spanish environmental management standards in the process of product design and development (eco-design).

The UNE 150301 standard verifies that Ofita designs its products taking the environmental impact they will have during the production, useful life and disposal phases of their life-cycle, attempting to reduce it to the minimum. This certificate shows the interest of the company in finding a balance between financial, environmental and social aspects and its ability to stay ahead of the demands of stakeholders.

Pioneer in eco-design

Ofita entered this field in 2000 when it took part in a pioneer regional eco-design project which enabled a reduction of 29.5% of the environmental impact of one of its tables in relation to previous models.

The Itaida chair became in 2006 the first company product to be certified under the UNE 150301 standard, and Ofita was the first company in Spain in the office furniture industry to be granted this certification.

Eco-design in this chair, for example, is translated into concrete environmental improvements such as the use of certified wood from sustainable forests, the environmental impact of which is less than half that of other models with similar features.

Since then, the Ofita products are entirely eco-designed.

Environmental Certification

Ofita reaffirms its commitment to the environment with the most representative certificates in the field: the UNE 150301 standard in eco-design, the ISO 14001 standard, PEFC/14-38-001 and FSC.

In February 2000 AENOR (The Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification) granted Ofita the Environmental Management Certificate in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard. This certification represents an unprecedented initiative at the national level, and involves public recognition, through an accredited body, of Ofita's commitment to establishing an effective system of environmental management.

Ofita subsequently obtained PEFC/14-38-001 certification (Forestry Products Chain of Custody Approval Certification) certifying that the wood used by Ofita in the manufacture of its products comes from forest areas managed with good environmental practises, thus fostering sustainability.

This certification would soon be joined by the aforementioned eco-design standard and the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), another Chain of Custody certification, that ensures that the wood with which the furniture is made comes from rationally managed forests, according to international standards.

In 2009, Ofita was granted the Integrated Environmental Authorisation (AAI), which brings together all activity permits and licenses concerning the environment.
