About Ofita / Ecodesign
In February 2000, AENOR grants Ofita the Environmental Management Certificate in compliance with the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard. This mark is an unprecedented initiative at national scope provided by an accredited organization in recognition to Ofita´s commitment to establishing an effective environmental management system. That very same year, Ofita started to participate in the Ecodiseño (Ecodesign) Project, started by the Public Society on Environment Management of the Basque Government (IHOBE), and whose purpose is that of reducing industrial design and manufacturing impact on the environment. To do so, this company researches and develops new ecological alternatives. Ecology is one of Ofita’s concerns and the company has set out to design spaces with an environmental criteria. Faithful to its commitment to respect the Environment applied to the design and manufacturing of its latest furniture lines, Ofita has followed Ecodiseño (Ecodesign) methodology, thus reducing high percentage levels of environmental impact in comparison to that other furniture programs previously used accounted for. In a search for ongoing improvement, it has developed innovative projects which contribute to service effectiveness. Such is the case, for example, of the Project Management System (GIP, from Spanish, meaning Gestión Integral de Proyectos) and the implementation of ERP software applied to business management. Service quality, together with design and production have been certified by international standards. Ofita products do not only comply with national (UNE) and international (EN) standards. They have deserved the Quality Certification by the Ministry of Defense, PECAL 9, equivalent to AQAP 9 by NATO. In 1994, AENOR certified Ofita according to ISO 9001 standards. Ofita’s activities integrate sustainable development criteria, which guarantee proper resources management and environment protection. It is, for example, one of the companies which signed the Volunteer Environmental Agreement of the Basque Country for the Surface Treatment Sector in February 2006. Already in 1996, it was the first company in the sector to obtain the UNE-EN-ISO 14001: 1996. A pioneer in Spain for its participation in the ECODISEÑO (ECODESIGN) project to reduce the impact of industrial products design and manufacturing on the environment. Since then, the company has worked under the ecodesign methodology and incorporated new alternatives of a more ecological type. Ten years after acquiring its first certificate, in 2006, Ofita obtains the UNE 150301 Certification, for environmental management applied to process design and product development (Ecodesiño), which recognizes the effort made by the company to design a new generation of furniture in compliance with design criteria better adjusted to sustainable development. This is the first Spanish company in the office furniture sector which has been awarded this certification which states that Ofita designs are thought out taking into account the environmental impact of the product during its production, use and thrown away phases, trying to reduce environmental impact as much as impossible at all times. |
