Ofita is participating in a pioneering project to measure and manage its carbon footprint, coordinated by Cluster Habic.

The objective of the Habicca Tool project is to develop an ad-hoc tool for the calculation of the Corporate Environmental Footprint (CEF), which will evaluate the company’s performance in several impact categories (climate change potential, water consumption or resource depletion, among others).

This tool will allow Ofita to know its environmental footprint and carbon footprint to better respond to the demands for environmental information received by its customers, anticipate possible requirements that may be imposed at the regulatory level and improve its management by reducing its environmental impact, without the need to outsource the calculation, so that the staff acquires specialized knowledge in environmental impact assessment.

With the information obtained in this project, developed by Ik Ingeniería, Ofita will propose a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, among other actions.

Sustainable for real

This project once again corroborates Ofita’s commitment. “We understand sustainability as the only possible way to achieve a fairer world in which, as a responsible company, we must advance. Our approach to sustainability integrates social and environmental aspects through our commitment to the circular economy and the Sustainable Development Goals,” says Camilo Agromayor, Ofita’s CEO.

Eco-design and sustainable manufacturing under the most rigorous quality standards are key to Ofita’s design, production and logistics processes. This is accredited by different certificates, such as ISO 9001 in manufacturing quality and continuous improvement of processes, ISO 14006 in ecodesign and environmental improvement of products, ISO 14001 in clean production and environmental protection… In addition, PEFC certification provides a verified and independent guarantee that Ofita furniture is made from certified wood from sustainably managed forests. “Our journey does not end here, because we are truly committed to sustainability; it is part of our corporate DNA and is one of our values,” adds Agromayor.

Thus, in 2019, Ofita became the first Spanish company in the office furniture sector with LEVEL® sustainability certification, level 2. LEVEL® is the first European certification that covers all relevant aspects of a product’s sustainability. This European certification scheme establishes that a product is sustainable from multiple perspectives and, to this end, not only evaluates the characteristics of the product, but also those of the organization and the facilities where the furniture is manufactured.

In addition, Ofita products have been eco-designed for many years. This means identifying, at the very moment a product is designed, all the environmental impacts that may occur in each of the phases of its life cycle, in order to try to reduce them to a minimum, without detriment to its quality and applications.
